Collection consists of about 3500 pieces of correspondence, written mostly by English artists to Martin Hardie, an artist and Keeper of the Paintings and head of the department of engraving, illustration, and design in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. The long list of correspondents include: Sir W. Russell Flint, Herman A. Webster, Gordon Craig, Lawrence Binyon, Frank Brangwyn, Arthur Rackham, Wyndham Lewis, and Roger Fry.
